(3/18/07) disease-causing mirrors; all hail the forward roll curve

(Entered in paper journal at 9:39 AM at Ozzie's coffee shop on 7th Avenue in Brooklyn.)

Dream 1

I had been speaking to some people in a house next to mine. We had been speaking about the connection between something in a house and disease. They had possibly told me they had fixed something in their house because it had been causing a disease. Their house was large and they were proud of it.

Our houses were connected by a wall in the basement. On the wall connecting the houses I noticed something that made me think my house may also have the disease-causing feature. The wall was thick, black lacquer, with protruding trapezoids (?)

on the faces of which were alternately mirrors and small, Japanese-style scenes of weepy trees by water in yellow and green. Something in the mirrors made me feel I might have the disease-causing feature: the mirrors were slightly corroded or oxidized, making a black "spray" appearance in the corners.

I judged the thinness of my torso in the mirrors (which weren't larger than five by seven inches) and was proud of myself.

I thought I should ask the people in the next house if they thought my wall had the disease feature. But I was afraid. I knew that even my basement was bigger than their entire house, which they were so proud of. I thought I would block my house from their view.

I gathered an array of white, metallic (?), lacework panels together, like the chairs arrangement of an orchestra, before the wall. The panels came from a second room of my basement, possibly where there was a piano. The wall opened like a secret passageway, pivoting from its center.

It was a huge space of wall that turned like above, maybe twenty feet wide. It opened to a narrow but clean and quiet hallway, like a back hallway of a museum or art gallery. On the other side of the hallway were glass doors that opened to the other house.

It was day, and although the light had shone through only dimly in my house, in their house the light was bright and golden. I looked back at the array of white panels and thought it would block the view of my house well enough while the people from the other house looked at my mirrors.

But now I heard my "nieces" or "cousins" approaching. They seemed late-19th century in some way, probably all dressed in white, lacy dresses, and they were looking forward to visiting and older man, who might have been I, but seems to have been older and more regal. I thought, If they come through while the people from the other house are visiting me, they'll give away how big my house really is.

Dream 2

I walked into a grocery store. It was a trendy, new health food store. right as I walked in was a produce section, and at the front of it was a strange rack like a clothing rack off which the hangers were arranged downward and diagonally and behind which was a box of fruits like large limes.

The "food" that hung on the hangers were fingers. There were regular-sized fingers hanging in strings on the left sides of the hangers, small fingers, which were thing as needles, in strings on the right sides, and in the centers something like green peppers.

These hangers were advertised as being part of the new health trend of cannibalism. I tried to convince myself that this wasn't true, that it was some kind of joke. But I knew that it was true, and that people were after each other.

I walked out of the store and saw a regular grocery store (not a health food grocery store) facing it on another side of the big parking lot.

I sat in a weird booth on a hillside that reminded me of a vineyard. To my right were viny arches like at the entrance to a rose garden. At the foot of the shallow, terraced, golden hillside was an expanse of golden-green valley under beautiful, clear, blue sky. Someone sat in this "booth" with me. I might have been facing toward the hillside.

To my right, beyond the viny arches, I could hear my boss EB trying to convince people why he felt the way he did about the company Pacific Ethanol. Apparently the company had gone through a number of management changes recently. It was a sign of their deteriorating fundamentals. EB was trying to show what this was all about. Finally EB got angry and said something like, "There's going to come a time when it all goes bad, and then I'm pulling out!"

I and the other person were now accompanied by JB. JB was explaining something financial to us, but he interrupted himself, having realized he had forgotten to make an announcement. He picked up the phone. I turned away from him and looked out at the valley as JB spoke.

JB said, "And now forget when you hear people say, 'All hail the forward roll curve.' The truth is that..." JB kind of lost his focus and drifted into saying his extension was 5045, and then said that he might actually have called and told everybody this before, but if he did, they should just ignore what he was saying right now.
