Dream #1
I may have been standing out on a lawn with a group of people. We'd finished working on some long project, which had apparently been physical, but which I then remembered as having been something like preparing for a court trial. It was like we were a jury and we had been preparing for the trial by finding the evidence ourselves.
Now either the trial was over or the evidence finding part of the trial was over and the trial was beginning. we were all relieved. This had been one of the longest times it had ever taken to find evidence. But one of us said, "Isn't there a group on the other side of the earth that has taken an even longer time?"
Our leader, a woman, said, "There is." I saw, for a moment, a photo of a group of Latin American people, mostly men, mostly wearing soccer jerseys, like soccer fans, on a sunny day out on a field like ours. The woman continued, "I'm planning on giving the people on the other side of the earth a congratulatory call and see how their trial is going right now."
We were all in a room. In the next room our trial was getting ready. The next room was dark wood, with some kind of a counter like a breakfast bar and then a kitchen area behind that. In front of the bar was the place where the jury sat. It was like a rubber doormat on a heavy, yellow, metal or plastic platform that shifted left to right as if it were on ball bearings. We could lay on the platform and watch the proceedings (in the kitchen area) as if we were watching TV.
The trial was about the murder of a little girl. The murderers might have been the little girl's parents. But at some point the trial became just a discussion of some industry, and we were all waiting around to hear one particular data point about the industry.
At some point I got bored. I walked out. I came back in just a second or two later, but the data point had already been said. My co-worker CJ had gotten it.
I now sat with a group of women right before the bar. A man who looked like Mick Jagger saw in the kitchen area. He kept handing us ice cream, sundaes, and hot fudge. The girls would eat the stuff. I kept thinking about eating it, but I didn't want to eat right now because I was scheduled to eat somewhere else shortly.
I thought, Perhaps when I go out to eat, I can by myself a sundae, maybe even a Peanut Buster Parfait. But I thought I probably wouldn't do that because that would be too many calories.
But now Mick Jagger became a lot more bullying. He insisted that I eat some of the ice cream. He even put a bowl of hot fudge in front of me and told me to eat that. He then sang a song about how I was in deep trouble if I didn't do everything he told me.

(10/29/07) collateral baby; the wrong way again!
(Entered in paper journal at 5:15 AM on Q-train from Brooklyn to Manhattan.)
Dream #1
A woman sat with some men in an otherwise empty theater. She held a gun which changed appearance from metallic silver to a weird, black, futuristic gun. The woman told the men how she had a man in holding. Unless he gave her a gun, which was a piece of evidence proving that she had killed yet another man, she would keep either keep the imprisoned man in holding or kill him.
One of the men reminded the woman, however, that there was a child of the imprisoned man who could somehow prove that the woman had killed a man.
I was in the hospital, walking through the halls as if I were the man who had been imprisoned. I was looking for my child, a little baby. I saw the baby hanging on a door. It was in the room, visible through the glass pane on the door. It had been hung with cords which to me resembled an umbilical cord.
As well as being the imprisoned man, I may also have been a doctor who had taken a special interest in this case. Finding the hung child, I brought it in to a couple of doctors. We figured we could try a special technique which could resuscitate strangulation victims.
I now saw a doctor standing over the baby. The doctor had a big knife in his hands. He cut through all the cords (which were like breathing tubes and other hospital equipment tubes) around the baby's neck. Blood flowed out of them.
Suddenly the baby woke up. It cried, and as it cried it grew into a child maybe ten or eleven years old. The doctor told the baby not to panic, that it was alright. But the baby panicked so much that it rolled out of bed.
The doctor jumped onto the bed and threw his legs over the other side to catch the boy. He then made some weird comment and swung his legs, and the boy, up onto a bed beside the first bed. He then jumped onto the bed.
Both the doctor and the boy were now boys about ten or eleven years old. The bed was huge. It had a wood frame. The boy and the boy-doctor were jumping all over the bed.
Dream #2
I stood at a train station like on the Metro North line of the MTA trains in New York. A small, dark-skinned (Indian?) boy said to me, "I'm happy you came all the way out to Utica to see us."
I was on the train now with a couple friends. The train was going through a deserty area of reddish-tan earth. I thought, I din't know New York had land like this. The sky was bright. The land became much more pale.
The train had been following another train. There were multiple tracks beside one another. Our train got its tracks confused and got lost from the lead train.
It was now like my friends and I were conducting the train. The friend actually conducting, though, hadn't been paying attention to the lead train's movements after we had gotten on the wrong track. Then he stopped paying attention to the tracks altogether. We started moving along on no tracks at all, near some cliff or mound of cakey sand. I told my friend, "Back up! Back up! We need to get back on track!"
We got back on a track, but we were heading somewhere way off from where we'd previously been heading. I told my friend, "If we just go back to where we first lost the train, I can get us back onto the track we're supposed to be on."
We got turned around and were heading back to where we'd gotten lost. We went past one or two large groups of people gathered around a black basalt cliff and overhang. I felt something wasn't right about seeing all these people. But I trusted we were going back to the right place.
We were back in an area that looked like where we'd gotten lost. But now my friend drove the train straight up the side of a hill. At first there were tracks. But at the top the tracks stopped. I yelled at my friend, "You're going the wrong way again!"

(4/1/08) the city had changed; the psychotic killer wins
(Entered in paper journal at 4:50 AM on Q-train from Brooklyn to Manhattan.)
Dream #1
I was in a toy store. It had an oldish feel to it, like a cheapish toy store from the 1980s. I must at first have thought it was a novelty shop.
I sat near the checkout stand, looking at the aisles and thinking of some kind of lingerie outfit I wanted to buy. But then I saw people coming in and buying toys. I took a walk through one of the nearby aisles. I thought, This place won't have the lingerie I was looking for, anyway. But I also thought there was something I did need to buy from here: something like a board game or an electronic device like a calculator.
I turned back toward the checkout stand and saw it was full of people asking where certain things were. I thought, I don't have enough time to wait here to find out where the thing I need is. I decided I would just go to the novelty shop, which was nearby, and buy the lingerie I was looking for.
I could see the novelty ship in my head. It looked very rundown and seedy, like an Eighth Avenue porn shop. I thought about how much things in New York City had changed over the years.
In my head I asked my sister if she thought the city had changed. She said, "I don't know. I live in a building in the middle of Central Park. Nothing much has been touched there."
I now stood in a building, a house that seemed to be one gigantic living room. It had a circular floor plan and walls sloping up to a roof. The floor was of concrete. The walls may have been of wood. The place was lit with natural light. I saw the front door and knew that outside was an enormous valley of green and orange grass, like the vast valleys of the Valles Caldera in New Mexico.
Dream #2
I was in something like a movie. I was a man in his forties, bald, a little fattish. I had probably been a mafia-type gangster. Now I was trying to stop a young man from also becoming a gangster.
We were in a park-like area of an apartment complex during the day. The young man was walking away from me, past a sandbox. I noticed the young man had a gun. He was planning to shoot three men.
I chased after the young man to confiscate the gun. Three gangsters stood behind me and a ways back. I caught up to the young man and grabbed the gun, which the young man held upside down and at a backward angle. My view of the gun was very close, as if I were on my knees.
The gun went off. It shot a little boy (who was among two other little boys) on a swingset. The boy hunched over, dead. I thought, Well, now he (the young man) is doomed to a life of crime. The young man had wrestled away from me.
Now my view was as if I were seeing from the young man's point of view, though I was still the older man. The young man was on his knees, pointing the gun at the older man/me. The older man/I stood with (my) back to a white, 1970s-style car.
The young man kept making threats at (me) with the gun. I thought if I kept letting the young man threaten me he'd see he could trust me.
But, really, the young man was somehow slowly hypnotizing me. The young man had convinced me to put the gun in my mouth and pull the trigger. At the moment the older man (no longer I?) died, the white car exploded. The young man was now completely psychotic, but he would, it was somehow implied, have power to do whatever he wanted. This was apparently a good thing.
The "movie" must now have been over, because a "song by Radiohead" was playing, as if it were the song for the ending credits. The Radiohead song was a particularly spoiled-brat-psycho kind of song, which I actually "remembered" liking when I'd heard it in the past.
I was now standing in the scene as myself, eating a box of Little Debbie Nutty Bars. I wondered how a movie could have an ending with such a nasty character winning and yet also seem to be promoting the ending as a positive one.

(4/14/08) jets and highway murder
(Entered in paper journal at 5:30 AM on Q-train from Brooklyn to Manhattan.)
Dream #1
I was watching a television show about jets. Then it was like I was actually in a plane, looking down on the jets as the narrator discussed them. My brother was with me. I pointed out each jet to him.
We would gain altitude to reach each new grouping of jets. I was afraid of gaining so much altitude, but I didn't show it, and I was happy to see the jets up so close.
I pointed out one of my favorites to my brother, one called the Skylab. It had three wings in a triangular configuration and a sloping nose. There was another large plane that flew alongside it. After that was a "scout plane" with a disc-like or flying-saucer-like front end. My brother didn't seem to be interested in any of these jets.
I had seen this whole progression of jets before, on television, and I knew there would be a last jet to follow, which would head straight up into the sky. I hoped we would follow this jet soon.
But now my brother and I were in a car on a highway, in a shallow recess between two slopes. As we approached a bridge that passed over the road we were on, I looked out my side of the car (the right side?) and saw a little, Hispanic boy (or girl?). We must have been driving at normal speed. But now it seemed like we were driving at a walking pace. The little, Hispanic child had been killed. His arms and legs were taped together. Beside the child were various cultic objects, like candles.
I wanted to get out of the car to tend to the dead child, but I thought it wouldn't be smart. The people who had killed the child might still be around. This might be a trap.
As we passed under the bridge I saw the rest of the family lying in the dirt. They all were also all dead and taped up. There also seemed to be a table and food, all overturned, like this had been the family's house. The mother's eyes were open, and it was like she was looking at me. I thought, I've never seen a dead body before.
I might have been driving the car. I told my brother to call 911. I gave my brother my cell phone. We had called 911 and gotten to a turnoff from the highway into a part of a turn like an industrial park.
I now thought I needed to head back to where we had come from. Somebody was supposed to arrive here after us, but I wanted to get to them and warn them that the might have trouble doing so.
But when I tried to get back onto the highway, a female police officer stopped me. The highway had been closed, the officer explained, while the murder of the Hispanic family was being investigated.
