(10/2/05) allegiance to the tree; star wars old and new

(Entered in paper journal at 8:30 AM at Ozzie's coffee shop on Garfield Street and 5th Avenue in Brooklyn.)

Dream 1

I was in a forest, sitting across from a monk or wizard. I was pledging my allegiance to a certain tree, the tree being a symbol for a certain clan. But I only had allegiance to the tree because I liked the tree.

There was another tree I also liked. I had to stop myself from liking the other tree, which was a somehow shameful tree to like. But when I would visualize the one tree so I could describe my allegiance to it, I kept seeing the other tree.

The look of the trees was somehow the same. They both looked like beech trees with serrated leafs which by this time of year were a pale gold-tan. But only one tree was opposite-branched, and only one tree had some special mark at the edges of its leafs. I might even have said the name of the tree out loud, only to be told it wasn't the name but the description that counted.

Dream 2

I was in a living room, probably with my friend R and his girlfriend L. We were watching a Star Wars movie.

We all walked away. The current movie may have ended. We were at a bar or counter that bounded the far end of the living room from the kitchen. My friend R's dog came running up.

We were talking about which movie to watch. I was going to leave because they were going to play one of the movies in the new series (i.e. the prequels), which I didn't want to see. But then it turned out they were going to play one of the movies I wanted to see. But I still wasn't sure I would stay.

I held a vase in my hands. It was porcelain and had a diamondy shape.

(11/15/05) blue jay call

(Entered in paper journal at 4:43 PM at Starbucks on 38th Street and Park Avenue in Manhattan.)

Dream 1

I was in forest with some friends. I held my hand out when I saw a deep blue blue jay fly near. It landed on my hand. Something about it made me fear it was diseased. It made a rattling call.

My friends were amazed that I had attracted the bird. I "taught" them how to call birds. One of my friends stood right before a raptor and made a call. All the time I was trying to remember what the right call was for a blue jay.

(3/10/08) everybody i know was inspiring to me

(Entered in paper journal at 6:26 AM at Starbucks on 56th Street and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan.)

Dream #1

I sat near my mother, possibly like I sat on the floor and she sat in a chair. She read a letter dated something like 4/13/65. The envelope in which the letter came (?) may have had the date written on it in palish blue crayon.

My mom was saddened by the letter. She showed it to me. The page was a picture of a dark pine forest lit from the back by bright white light. In white lettering in the foreground was a short statement along the lines of "everybody I know was inspiring to me." Down in the left corner was a bunch of technical information or contact information.

This was the suicide letter "my mom's brother" had written. It had just been rediscovered. I realized the goodness in this man's heart and what a loss the man's suicide had been. I began crying uncontrollably.

(2/8/10) attacking a mountain lion; internet during power outage

(Entered in paper journal at 6:30 AM, on B-train into work from Brooklyn.)

Dream #1

I was out in the woods, possibly with a group of people (my family?). It was night. I was thinking (and possibly talking) about the dangerous creatures in the woods. At one point I may either have been thinking about or actually walking around in a large circle maybe thirty feet in diameter, in the blue light of the moon.

A mountain lion (which I may have called a wolf) may have come near me or tried to attack me. I jumped on its back and attacked it somehow, possibly by jamming my elbow into the vertebrae between it shoulder-blades. I was still talking/thinking (as if in narration) about encountering dangerous creatures in the woods.

Dream #2

I was in my room, laying down. I looked up from the head of my "bed" and saw, in the dark, "my dog" (possibly a Cocker Spaniel, like my family's dog had been). The dog seemed to be afraid of something. She scurried away and hid behind some boxes at the corner of my room.

I wondered why the dog would be afraid. I sat up to look at her. I suddenly realized it was dark in my room, even though I always kept the lights on in my room at night. At first I thought that maybe I'd started turning off my lights. But I knew that wasn't so, and that something was wrong. Somehow I knew that a power outage had occurred.

I may have been holding a PDA of some sort, or a mobile phone like a G1. It was turned off. I thought I should check the internet on my BlackBerry to see what it had to say. My BlackBerry, I knew, was battery powered. So I should be able to get some news from the internet. But even if I couldn't get news from the internet, I could at least use the screen for light.
